Who is eligible for the scholarship?

Currently registered medical students and recent graduates of the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg who are NOT YET registered as a doctoral student at the time of application for this scholarship. For medical students, the proof of completion of the primary medical examination (“Physikum”) is mandatory.
Please note that ONLY students of the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg are eligible for the scholarship.

Is there a possibility to be part of the HGSGH without being formally eligible for the scholarship?

There are two options to become an associate member of HGSGH:
(a) shortlisted applicants who were not awarded a scholarship but agreed to follow the programme;
(b) applicants who do not meet formal requirements for the scholarship but agree to follow the programme.
To apply for an associate membership, interested applicants should follow the standard application procedure clearly indicating the associate membership.

What are application deadlines?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with the three deadlines throughout the year: 1 February, 1 June, 1 October.

Which documents are required for the application?

  • CV in Europass format
  • Transcripts from your medical studies:
    (a) HeiCuMed Querschnittsbereich Epidemiologie, Medizinische Biometrie und Medizinische Informatik;
    (b) primary medical examination (“Physikum”)
  • Research proposal (max. 3 pages)
  • Motivation letter (max. 1 page)

What is the selection procedure?

Eight shortlisted applicants are invited for an interview within the first month after each deadline. The 20-minute interview consists of a short presentation and questions from the selection committee. Applicants are informed on the final decision of the selection committee within one week after the interview.

Can I split the 12 months scholarship into e.g. twice 6 months with a break in between?

No, the awarded scholarship covers an uninterrupted period of 12 months.
