Who is eligible for the scholarship?
Medical students and recent graduates who are eligible and willing to do their Dr. med. at the the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg. For medical students, the proof of completion of the primary medical examination (“Physikum”) is mandatory.
I am a medical student/medical doctor from abroad (non-german university). Am I eligible for the scholarship?
Please clarify with your potential supervisors if you are eligible to do your Dr. med. at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg before applying to the graduate school. State in your motivation letter clearly, that your eligibility has been approved and the name of your potential supervisors.
Who will/can be my supervisor?
In principle everybody who is habilitated at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg. However, it might be easier to get in touch with supervisors already associated to the graduate school. Please, contact potential supervisors before applying.
What are application deadlines?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with the three deadlines throughout the year: 1 February, 1 June, 1 October.
Which documents are required for the application?
- CV in Europass format
- Transcripts from your medical studies: primary medical examination (“Physikum”)
- Research proposal (max. 3 pages)
- Motivation letter (max. 1 page)
- Please, name your potential supervisor in your proposal or in your letter.
What are the evaluation criteria for applications?
Applications are evaluated with respect to the individual applicant (60%) and to the outlined research project (40%). Criteria for the individual’s evaluation are understanding of and commitment to Global Health as well as basic research skills. The research project is evaluated against criteria such as proposal outline, scientific rigor, feasibility, and ownership.
What is the selection procedure?
Depending on quality and amount of applications, we may shortlist applicants and invite them for an interview within the first month after each deadline. The 30-minute interview consists of a short presentation and questions from the selection committee. Applicants are informed on the final decision of the selection committee within week after the application deadline.
Can I split the 12 months scholarship into e.g. twice 6 months with a break in between?
No, the awarded scholarship covers an uninterrupted period of 12 months.
